Straightforward and helpful insider’s tips for private jet travel are hard to come by. So, we took a list of real-life questions to Randy Brandoff, VP of Marketing at Marquis Jet.

What is the appropriate etiquette when it comes to splitting a jet flight with your buddy or client? Do you send him an invoice for his half of the bill?

Brandoff said that there really is no hard rule for splitting the jet tab. He did inform us that Marquis Jet will not send an invoice to your guest on your behalf (so that option is out). As a matter of fact, Brandoff noted, unless you are a certified air carrier you cannot formally resell jet hours to anyone.

How to handle this situation

If you are a guest on a private flight, offer to pay for all ground transportation and hotel accommodations for the trip. As a guest, if you fly privately as well, offer to pay for the next flight they take with you – much like “I’ll get the next round of drinks” when you are at the bar or “we’ve got the next dinner” when you and your spouse have frequent meals with another couple.
